Scheduling Your First Visit

We are always excited about meeting new patients during their first visit to Brooklyn Family Orthodontics! We understand that choosing to receive orthodontic care is a big decision, and we respect your reasons for wanting to improve the way you look and feel.

Dr. Fermanis will work with you every step of the way to make sure that your orthodontic care is as rewarding as possible. Our practice utilizes the latest technology, and offers a variety of safe and gentle treatment options to give you the customized, individual care you deserve.

Your initial appointment will be a 30-minute visit to meet our team, learn about orthodontics, and discuss which treatment options will best meet your needs. Please assist us by bringing us any x-rays that you may have. During the initial exam we will address the following questions that cover the basics of orthodontic treatment.

We encourage you to ask questions as well.

- Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
- Is treatment needed now, or should it be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption, or other factors have occurred?
- What procedures may be used to correct the problem?
- Approximately how long will treatment take?
- How much will it cost and what are my payment options?

What happens after the initial consultation?

While we can often answer these general questions about treatment options during the initial exam, we will address areas of specific concern after careful analysis of the diagnostic records. These records include X-rays, photos, and digital study models. They are necessary for developing the appropriate treatment plan. We believe it’s important to analyze each patient's specific needs, because in-depth treatment planning leads to superior results and greater patient satisfaction.

We will then schedule a consultation visit with Dr. Fermanis to discuss treatment options and time frames for treatment. Also, we will answer any additional questions.

After your consultation, we will schedule your first appointment to place your new orthodontic appliance. This appointment generally takes about an hour. During this time, our team will be available to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.

Fitting orthodontics into a busy schedule

Dr. Fermanis realizes that most people who seek orthodontic treatment have other important obligations during the day, such as work or school. We try to make our appointments as convenient as possible.

Appointments to place braces and remove them are scheduled during the day because they are longer appointments. When active treatment begins, each patient is seen every four to  eight weeks. Most of these shorter “adjustment appointments” last about 15 minutes and can be done after school. Occasionally, some of these appointments need to be longer and may conflict with work or school schedules, but we’ll try to keep these to a minimum.

We realize that “life happens”! If you’re running late or need to reschedule, please call our office and we will try to reschedule you as soon as possible. Missed appointments and numerous appointment changes can result in an extension of treatment time.

When you are ready to schedule your first appointments, please contact our office and our appointment coordinator can assist you. Please be sure to tell us the days and times that work best.
